Martina Hoffmann, painter and sculptress, lives and works in the US. The German-born artist spent her childhood in Cameroon, West Africa and studied art at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. Her early work consists of portraiture and a series of pregnant nudes. These ‘Birthscapes,’ are life-size and depict the physical and spiritual realities of pregnancy. They are part of the large ‘Goddess Triangle’, a 20’ x 10’ multi-media installation piece, consisting of painted panels, sculptural elements as well as sound. Early African experiences became the inspiration for her sculptures ‘The Goddess Series’ as well as having had a great effect on her body of painted work. In her more recent paintings Hoffmann’s style has shifted towards Transpersonal Realism and she has become a translator of visions. A large part of her creative work offers the viewer a detailed glimpse into her inner landscapes - imagery that has been inspired by expanded states of consciousness: the realms of the imagination, meditation, shamanic journeys and the dream state. While much of her work shows a deep connection to the sacred feminine, it also reflects a deep reverence for our universal interconnectedness and the interdependency of all life. Martina Hoffmann, has exhibited her work internationally since 1985 and has created original art and photography for numerous CD as well as book and magazine covers and is considered today to be one of the foremost contemporary female visionary artists. She is married to the American Fantastic Realist, Robert Venosa, and together they have taught visionary painting workshops worldwide at such Institutes as Esalen, CA, Omega, NY and Skyros in Greece with the most recent workshop with Robert Venosa November 12-18th. Also Hoffmann has been speaking on behalf of visionary art and culture at international conferences such as Convergence and The Amazonian Shamanism Conference in Iquitos Peru, The International Conference on Expanded States of Conscioussness in Cuernavaca, Mexico as well The AllChemical Conference in Kona Hawaii, Mindstates Conference in Berkeley and Prophets Conference in Santa Fe, USA. Her work has been exhibited and collected worldwide as well as having been published internationally in books such as The Visionary World of Hansruedi Giger by Stanislav Grof, Be The Change by Ed and Deb Shapiro, Inner Paths To Outer Space, Metamorphosis (BeinArt Publishing 2007), True Visions (Betty Books 2006), Drinking Lightning, Illuminatus, (Fine Arts Press1999), One Source, Sacred Journeys, The Return Of The Great Goddess (Shambhala Publishing 2001, Noospheres (Pomegranate 1991), and in magazines and publications such as such as ‘Celebrating Women’s Spirituality’, ‘We’Moon’, ‘Inscape’, Magical Blend, Shaman’s Drum, Expose, Nexus and Wellbeing Magazine.
